In a few months, Rainbow High shot up in popularity, being enjoyed by both a younger and older demographic of doll collectors. It especially sparked the interest of people who had previously grew up with fashion dolls such as Monster High, Ever After High, and MGA Entertainment's own brand, Bratzillaz, three doll lines that also have a high school element. The first 11-inch Rainbow High dolls were released in 2020, with the initial lineup including Ruby Anderson, Poppy Rowan, Sunny Madison, Jade Hunter, Skyler Bradshaw and Violet Willow dolls. Each of the original dolls included two outfits and a doll stand, while the dolls themselves featured inset eyes and thirteen points of articulation. The first Playsets were released in early August, 2020 with the introduction of the Fashion Studio, Hair Studio, and Hair Salon. The Fashion Studio and Hair Studio sets came with dolls (Avery Styles and Amaya Raine, respectively), while the Hair Salon was the first playset to not include a doll. The first ever themed/budget dolls released only 5 months after the debut of the doll line with the Cheerleader Squad dolls, which featured the main 6 characters in cheerleading uniforms. Rainbow High so far only has two body types, which are female and male. The female dolls all share the same body molds. All dolls so far are 24 cm, making them the same height as shorter Monster High dolls. The bodies are made of high quality, hard plastic and the doll's hair is made out of nylon. The dolls are fully articulated, female ones has 11 points of articulation: at the head, arms, elbows, wrists, hips, and knees. The boys have 13 points, with all of the female points of articulation plus articulation at the ankles. The web series concluded its first season on 11 June 2021 [5] [6] The second season premiered on 16 July 2021 and concluded on 28 January 2022, with the third season featuring the rival school, "Shadow High", beginning 2 months later on 25 March, and concluded 23 November of that same year. At the close of 2020, the brand got independent from other MGA brands and got complemented with an audiovisual franchise of in-universe-branded web series of computer-animated shorts and episodes which were predominantly released on YouTube and later made available on Netflix. In February 2022, MGA released the franchise's first official spin-off known as Shadow High to be the brand's rival school, with the spin-off brand spotting/representing grayscale colors in clear contrast to their hosts. This release set the standard of having 6 characters being introduced in a series, with any additional ones being either parts of playsets like Amaya Raine and Avery Styles in Series 1, or special edition like Kia Hart. Cheerleader Squad, Winter Break, and Rainbow Junior High Series 1 consists of Series 1 characters with the exception of Avery Styles and Amaya Raine.
