The next morning, the TV comes on and - ugh! - ! up lurches a thirsty and very hungover caterpillar. Absolute perfection. The greatest praise I can offer is that I wish I'd written the bloody thing myself! Eric Carle's The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a perennial favourite with children and adults alike. Its imaginative illustration and clever cut-out detail charts the progress of a very hungry caterpillar as he eats his way through the week. This Book and CD edition includes an audio reading from Eric Carle himself.

Equally, like many parents, I have experienced the torture that is a hangover with small children. Why do the fates always collide the morning after the night before and ensure they all have to get up at 6am and decide to form a band, at the bottom of your bed? Admittedly, I'm not usually the hungover one. I tend to be the sensible adult (or, as history would attest, the pregnant one). As a result I have lived through more hangovers from the other side of the beer fog than I've personally experienced. Which is why this book was actually perfect. If you're a parent, or know someone who is, they need this in their lives for those dark moments. Of which there can be many.

In case you hadn’t worked it out, I’m sure you have, this is a parody of the children’s book ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. It is amusing and I for one am glad that I’m not a heavy drinker as the man looks in serious pain throughout the day and I don’t know how he managed to eat and drink so much looking for a cure – yuk!!
