About this deal

I appreciate the immensely diverse character cast, but disliked every character I met so far besides Marcia, and found the plot difficult to follow and extremely rushed. This isn't for me, but I'm sure it will better suit a lot of other readers. When Oscar Caskey finds the mysterious Elinor Dammert on the second floor of a hotel during a great flood, he brings her home and falls in love with her. But Elinor isn't what she seems and Mary-Love, Oscar's mother and matriarch of the Caskey clan, doesn't want Oscar marrying her... This was ... epic. There are a few family sagas out there in book format and I'm usually not all too interested in them. This one, however, promised to be a horror story besides and it was about a little town in Alabama surrounded by swamp and mystery (perfect theme to read about in summer). Let me say it right at the beginning: this is NOT a horror story. Not really. Did that mar my enjoyment? Not one bit! Elinor loves her family, she does very well by them, and you really want to like her, except that the some of the acts she commits are less justifiable than others. Going into detail would be spoilery, but let's just say that while some of her victims deserve it, others very much do not... and the consequences of those acts will haunt her family (literally) for generations, until Elinor herself is reclaimed by the waters of the Perdido.

His screen credits include Beetlejuice (1987), and collaborations on The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) and Thinner (1996). McDowell also wrote the novelization of the film Clue in 1985. The film was based on the board game and featured three different endings; however, the novelization was based on the shooting script and includes an additional fourth ending that was cut from the film. He also contributed screenplays to a number of television horror anthologies, including Tales from the Darkside. The city itself is defended by some five thousand seven hundred gold cloaks, [N 6] leavened with eight hundred mercenaries and three hundred knights, squires, and men-at-arms from the court and the surrounding crownlands. As acting Hand of the King, command of the defense is taken by Tyrion Lannister. [4] During my read of the sample, I wasn’t able to get a full feel of the characters yet. Out of the two, though, I felt more of a connection towards Tony. Even though Eli had a lot of unexplained things about him that made me intrigued to find out more, there was one part in the beginning that soured my mood toward him. And since there wasn’t much development about it, or any apologies, (I assume there will be in the full version though), I had a hard time warming to him. Even so, I was interested to see where his relationship with Tony went. The City Watch of King's Landing contains six thousand men, although only two thousand of these, who had received their gold cloaks from Robert I Baratheon, are seasoned men. [4] Three hundred gold cloaks later escort Petyr Baelish to Bitterbridge, [23] leaving only five thousand seven hundred. I think this may be my favorite McDowell so far. It has all the Southern gothic pieces I've enjoyed from his other books, but in this long family epic, I got to really stretch out and luxuriate in it. This is my second 30+ hour listen of pandemic times and while it takes me a longer time to get through than it normally would, there's a real pleasure in staying in the same world and characters for so long.Surviving captains from Joffrey's warships River Arrow, Wildwind and Prince Aemon, and under officers from Godsgrace, Ramshead, Lance and Lady of Silk, honored by the crown. [8] I found book four to be quite slow and dull, but thankfully things got interesting again through book 5. The moment I saw this book, I knew that I wanted to read it. A horror/fantasy graphic novel with queer main characters? Sign me up! I was ecstatic to get it in my hands, and I started to read it as soon as possible. My first two thoughts of the book went like this:

Two of the three lumber mills in Perdido belong to Marie-Love and James so you can imagine the family's status in the small town. The supernatural plotline moved a bit fast, and everyone was weirdly chill about *SPOILER* Tony being turned into a werewolf. *END SPOILER* But graphic novels, especially when they’re standalones (which I think this is) often move fast like that. Sometimes it’s a problem for me, but it wasn’t in this one. I felt all the emotion, I got all the info I needed, so I don’t think it really needed to be longer. I feel like it accomplished what it meant to. The only thing really "horror" about this story was how these people swapped babies around because they couldn't live in a house without one. Sheesh! However, that was a nice bridge to telling of family expectations and the pressure put onto the respective next generation. Nevertheless, it was crazy! Stannis' fleet consists of ten battlelines of twenty ships, [14] bringing the total amount of ship to two hundred. Freeman, John. "Joyce Carol Oates, up close and personal", The Times, 2007-08-11. A young girl's mysterious disappearance in quiet Babylon, Florida, awakens a horror in the Styx River that draws the Larkin, Redfield and Hale families into a supernatural web of murder and madness. The supernatural stuff was good fun. I especially liked how the ghost elements tied into the unfolding werewolf plot. It was well told and highly entertaining for it. I also enjoyed the illustrations and how it said in the start that both creators alternated drawing chapters in this book. And I found the art styles of both creators to not be super drastic in change which was nice.
